Martin “Marty” Hunter

| Martin “Marty” Hunter, 52,
passed away in the early morning of Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the home
of his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Mike Irwin, in Camby, Indiana,
after battling ALS for a year and a half. Born on January 4, 1956, in
Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of William B. Hunter (deceased) and
Barbara L. (Hall) Hunter, who survives him, along with his siblings, William
F. Hunter, Joan M. Hunter, George E. Hunter, Beverly (Hunter) Irwin and John
D. Hunter, and several nieces and nephews. Marty was a patrol officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department for 27 years, officially retiring in October, 2007 from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (the newly merged Indianapolis Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Department). Marty earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Indiana Weslyan University. A confirmed bachelor, he had a deep and abiding belief in our Lord Jesus and studied the Bible faithfully. He was motivated by a desire to serve others and was always a compassionate and caring friend to everyone he knew. He had a very generous and gentle nature, a great sense of humor, and a keen wisdom. He was loved by a good many people. He had a passion for gardening and home remodeling which was evident in a showcase garden and a beautiful home on the Southside of Indianapolis. He is and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana. Procession will begin at 1:00 p.m. to Washington Park North Cemetery, 2702 Kessler Boulevard, West Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana. |
